The palace in the painting appeared much as it does today. Vergårdsbron no longer exists. Riddarholmskyrkan is a historic church on Riddarholmen. The important mint where cobalt and nickel were discovered, Kungliga Myntet, cannot be seen; it is approximately at the base of Riddarholmskyrkan, hidden by buildings. These buildings include a slaughter house (slakturehuset, for which the bridge is named), a fishing dock, shops, and living quarters.
